After 20 years of practicing reflexology, there are three profound foot reflexes that I have found to help certain symptoms of fibromyalgia.
- Amygdala Refelex
- Adrenal Reflex
- Hip-Sciatic Reflex
In my opinion, these three foot reflexes bring relief from the symptoms of anxiety, sleeplessness, depression and fatigue, that fibromyalgia can cause.
My theory is to strike these reflexes hard to bring about a hard reset.
Fibromyalgia also causes pain and numbness, which deep tissue massage addresses much better, in my opinion.
However, reflexology has a unique way of reaching the nervous system, so as to reset it, calm it, refocus it, and bring a measure of nervous tissue homeostasis.
Let’s discuss how these three reflexes help fibromyalgia.
- Amygdala Reflex: This almond-shaped set of neurons, found in the mid-lobe of the brain, controls our emotions. If it malfunctions it can contribute to anxiety and depression in particular.
- Adrenal Reflex: This endocrine gland gives us our giddy-up-and-go. Fibromyalgia can depress adrenaline – making you tired and fatigued.
- Hip-Sciatic Reflex: This reflex induces deep relaxation, allowing the person to hopefully sleep and be less irritable throughout the day.
The foot chart below shows where the three main reflexes are located. And the video above is how I perform reflexology on those reflexes.
I like to strike these fibromyalgia reflexes at least three to four passes each treatment. Some patients see immediate results. For a few, it did not help more than a day or so. And some it has helped long term.
Each person is different and their condition may be more severe, with their doctor prescribing medicines that have a greater benefit.
I usually recommend a few tries. If it does not work within a few visits, well, it probably won’t and finding another modality or medicine would be advisable.
